Major League Baseball has been around since June of 1846, when the Cincinnati Red Stockings became Americas very first baseball club. Throughout the years MLB has become one of the most watched, and talked about professional sports across the nation. It is highly successful and MLB fans dedicate their time to watching this sport and supporting their teams.

Recently, the Chicago Cubs have been named the 2017 World Series Champions, and had a memorable game against the Indians, naming the Cubs champions since 1908! The World Series is one of the most popular championships in the world, and the Cubs winning this meant a lot to the people of Chicago. However, how much does the World Series really cost? How much time and effort goes into setting it up and preparing for a national game to be televised? We want to know the numbers, and if it is all worth the hype. Do people watch this and will continue to watch it for years to come?

The MLB World Series is always hosted by one of the teams involved in the series, and the city that hosts it, receives a very large sum of money. As of now, it is currently costing about $8 million per game to market, advertise, create, and host a World Series game. For the taxpayers, it will cost about $225,000, and for the visitors who spend money on food, apparel, merchandise, and tickets, at these games, will spend between $18 million and $40 million. This helps generate money back for the spending on promoting the championship game.
It looks like the MLB marketing and promotions behind the scenes, is very successful and knows what works to crate talk and buzz about the upcoming game. From the sponsorships and endorsements, to the commercials and ads, it gives excitement to the game, and creates that need that fans and consumers will have, to get them to watch the game wherever they are.

For the Cubs, it seems that they are making a lot out of winning such an important game. Each player from the Cubs was awarded about $400,000 each. In total this championship money, was valued at about $4.4 million. It seems that they deserve such a good amount to be recognized for. However, for us and being a taxpayer, what does this do for us? Is it taking too much away from us for a salary of a baseball player? The MLB is highly accredited and being a fan, we love watching it, but when is too much money…too much?
