How I Picture Myself in the World of Sports Marketing
Since I was 4 years old, I was thrown into cheerleading, not really knowing what to expect. My mother said she did it in high school and loved every aspect of it. I knew I wanted to be just like my mom, so I had a passion to try this whole "cheerleading" thing out too. From age 4, to middle school years, to high school doing competitive cheer, and also sideline cheer, I was obsessed with my sport. When it came time to apply for college at Western Michigan University, I knew I wouldn't have time to balance academics, my busy work life, and also cheerleading as well, so I ended my cheerleading career senior year of high school, with a heavy heart.
In college, I figured out I was totally fine with not doing a college sport and cheering as a bronco. Because I chose not to try out for the team, I could finally enjoy sitting in the bleachers and cheering on my college football team as just a fan. Boy what I was missing. Yes I loved being on the track next to the field cheering, but being a fan in the stands was a whole different experience that I finally was able to enjoy and I truly loved this side of it too.
The last two years of college, I really started to focus on what I want to do when I graduate. I debated between marketing, sports marketing, and event planning these past couple years, and knew that whatever I wanted to do, I would combine my passion of helping people and the love of sports into my future career. Now that I am a senior taking a sports management class, I learned how awesome marketing for sports teams could actually be. Whether I pursue doing marketing for a sports team in Michigan (Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers, or Lions) or do event management for any of these teams, I can bring a lot to the table. I have never actually worked with a professional team, but I have a lot of experience in marketing and planning events that could benefit these teams and help promote their events.
I am graduating from college in two weeks, and I have a career started. Unfortunately it is not in sports marketing, but I plan for it to be one day. My goal in life is to be an event manager for the Red Wings, and do events for the fans and the team at the arena in Detroit. I love traveling, and would love to travel with the team and be their marketer/event planner. I feel like I can make this dream become a reality one day, and I will use all of the skills and experience I have had in my sports marketing class. One day you will see me at a game, doing what I love best, rooting for my team..in the world of sports marketing.
